    Thanks!

He was definitely a strong man. I wish that Americans payed more attention to him.

I think for me it was more of a day of reflection (although I get really weepy when I hear the "I Have a Dream" speech :) MLK day though isn't the only time I ponder the guy.
He really scared a large segment of the population. I think though that because he was a preacher he broke through the fears of Christians.

Would it be a good way to preach peace and acceptance to become a devout Christian as he was and teach those things as King did?

I.e. would that route still work, do you think?

Yeah, if more Christians in the corridors of power resembled the late Dr. King we'd be much better off. Pity all the good ones get off'ed and the bad ones cling like rats to barrels.

I Think that route would work but I don't think the assembled cast of fixers and thugs is what we need. Seems like everything is so splintered now as compared to the 60's. I see quite alot to admire in say Jessie Jackson but he is not MLK. Al Sharpton is (IMO) just as much of a fixer as a corner bookie... I just don't see anyone who is cut out for the job.

          Hillary Clinton?... Obama?
Hard to find contenders for the role.

MLK wasn't a professional politician but a man of the people... that's where his power derived from. that's why i don't think the next MLK will come out of congress, she'll come out of a people's movement.

worth bearing in mind, too, that the strong grassroots movement spawned dr. king, not the other way around. same with gandhi, mandela, chavez, aristides, etc etc.

All good points. I really had not looked at it from that angle (the grassroots movement) and thank you for the heads up.
